Guided Tour of the Garment District, Fashion Show and Luncheon
Saturday June 13th, 2009, 1:30 to 5pm

Striptease Symposium, LA’s on-going burlesque classes taught by
award winning burlesque dancers, host a field trip to
LA’s garment district.  Armed with Penny Starr Jr’s. Glamor Guide
to the Garment District, a detailed map of the area featuring where
to buy the best rhinestones, appliqués and beaded trim (and where
to find clean bathrooms), Jewel of Denial and Penny Starr, Jr.
give you a quickie tour of the area, (starting at the Tiara Cafe,
127 E. 9th St.), then unleash you to shop with vengeance.

Then, at 3pm, gather at the luxe downtown eatery TIARA CAFÉ for a luncheon (including a choice of entrée, mini cupcake and  complimentary glass of champagne), followed by a fashion show featuring burlesque dancers in
their adorned, feathered, over-the-top costumes along with a lecture on
the Design of the Burlesque Silhouette presented by Penny Starr, Jr.,
award winning burlesque dancer (Miss Exotic World First Runner-Up 2004)
and over 15 years experience in costuming for film and TV.

ABOUT THE MODELS

Called a “Delightful Sexpot” by the LA Weekly and granddaughter of
Philadelphia burlesque legend Penny Starr Sr,PENNY STARR, JR. is
“the Pe-Tite Barnum of Burlesque”: director of the documentary
THE VELVETHAMMER BURLESQUE and the Princess Farhana line of
dance videos, First Runner-Up Miss Exotic World 2004,
co-founder of Striptease Symposium burlesque classes and producer
of the long running Victory Variety Hour (voted one of the Best Shows
in LA by Bizarre Magazine).  In addition to making burlesque her business,
she has worked in the film and television industry for over 15 years as a designer
of independent films (TRU LOVED) and a costumer for TV (NUMB3RS, CHUCK).

In 2003, JEWEL OF DENIAL entered the sparkling world of the Velvet
Hammer Burlesque—LA’s pioneering burlesque troupe--and has remained a
solo dancer since 2005. She has graced stages in 4 countries, 6 states,
and 17 cities; including Las Vegas, Hollywood, Seattle, San Francisco,
San Diego, Portland, Washington D.C., London, and Amsterdam. Her signature
style juxtaposes the basics of life: heartache, stereotypes, trash, religion,
work, etc. with glamour and sex appeal for a humorous, sometimes shocking
outcome.  Currently, Jewel holds the title of 2008 Miss Exotic World--Best Duo
(along with Kat Bardot). She is also co-founder of Striptease Symposium:
where she consults, choreographs, teaches group classes,
and offers private instruction.

AMBER RAY
is a sensation in the evolving essence of pop art
and culture. She is well known for her many characterized acts and
adventures based on collaborations for style makers such as Anti-gravity,
Susanne Bartsch, Thierry Mugler, Jackie 60, Penny Arcade and
a thrivingly talented New York City performance community.
She is inspired by classic burlesque, the freak chic, theater, high-fashion,
old Hollywood and the feminine mystique visible in every era.  Ardently sharing
her love of style and luster in a purely spiritual expression, Amber Ray
works as an artist, costume designer, singer, burlesque entertainer and
all around creative force of nature. Promoting her love of glamour you can find
her vending her personalized accoutrements.

VENUS DeMILLE
is a nationally recognized burlesque artist.
She debuted as a feature dancer for the Velvet Hammer Burlesque and
was named "Legend in the Making" at the 2005 Miss Exotic World Pageant.
She has over 25 years experience in costume design and construction,
which just gave away her age. (Oh Well,.... that's why they call her
a Legend in the Making.) She is also the Head Tailor for the
Los Angeles Opera, and Costume Designer for the Troubadour Theatre Company.
She has designed and made costumes for the Velvet Hammer
Chorus Line, Princess Farhana, Bobby Pinz, Jewel of Denial,
and Prince Poppycock!

VIXEN VIOLETTE
is a burlesque performer based in
Los Angeles, California. She performs regularly at the
Victory Variety Hour, the Bordello in downtown Los Angeles,
and was the co-producer, host, and regular performer at The Burlesque-a-Go-Go,
an LA Times “best bet.” Her past engagements have included the
Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender, the New York Burlesque Festival,
and the Historic Orpheum Theater. In addition to burlesque,
she also sings, creates all of her own costumes and corsets,
and teaches others the fine art of burlesque costuming.

They aren't kidding when they call her "The Shimmy-Shaking
And Trouble Making" BUNNY BRAVO. She is the producer of the
successful SHIMMY & SHAKE burlesque shows in Los Angeles and
Orange County. She was also 1st runner up at the 2008
Miss Viva Las Vegas Burlesque competition. A student of Kitten De Ville,
she hit the ground running and soon started one of the best burlesque
shows in Los Angeles and the O.C.. This year she is featured in the 2010
L.A. Burlesque Calendar which is available now.
She also designs costumes and clothing as well as create her own.

Bringing her training as painter, actress and model,
"The Red Head With The heart of Gold", LAVENDAR LA RUE
loves the mix of art and live performance that is known as Burlesque.
Inspired by couture fashion and vintage clown images, all of Lavendar’s
costumes (be it embellished bra, doll hats, fringed shimmy belts or
feathered fans) are of her own design.  All sewn by hand,
her “Frankenstein Couture” is a mix vaudeville and
all things darkly glamorous.

As a four year old, ANASTASIA VON TEASERHAUSEN
looked at her of mother's Erté books and said
"Mommy I want to make these."  She taught herself to use
a sewing machine at age 14, breaking 2 in the process.
Sewing professionally since she was 17,   she studied in New York for
Accessory and Millinery design at Fashion Institute of Technology.
After specializing in fetish and club costuming for several years,
she was introduced to the amazingly fun world of
burlesque and found a passion in it.
